Executive Summary

The IUPUI School of Informatics and Computing (SOIC) have been exploring various recruitment methods to effectively communicate with prospective students about their program. Their primary goals are to potential students buy into their undergraduate programs and have them commit to giving their contact information. With the contact information of these students, it becomes easier for the SOIC to keep them informed.

The SOIC have tried several strategies to address this issue in the past. They have data from their departmental website that says views of their website are up, but overall enrollment and engagement on their website have remained the same. They also have anecdotal evidence that suggests that their website is not properly educating prospective students about what informatics is.

The recommendations compiled in this report, based on a review of the literature and by analyzing other collegiate informatics websites, could be implemented on the SOIC website. Following the recommendations from this report will improve online engagement with prospective students and gain the contact info of students that could be interested in learning more about the School of Informatics and Computing.

Brief Recommendations:

  • Creating a landing page for “Prospective Students”

  • Redesigning the SOIC website's UI to improve access to student information

  • Using an AI Helper to help navigate the information available on the website

  • Use social media as a channel of communication
